Arrest of Oklahoma Murder Suspect

Alamosa, CO - On April 28, 2026, the Southern Colorado United States Marshals Service Violent Offenders Task Force, in collaboration with regional law enforcement agencies, executed the successful apprehension of a homicide suspect. The individual was sought in connection with a 2016 investigation originating from Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.

The suspect, Charles Shamblin, was initially identified as a person of interest regarding a 2016 homicide involving a victim who disappeared during a hiking excursion. Although Shamblin was formally charged in 2017, the prosecution was subsequently dismissed as the victim's remains had not been recovered at that time.
In January 2025, investigators successfully recovered human remains that were later forensically confirmed to be the victim from the 2016 case. Following this discovery, criminal charges were reinstated, and a warrant for First-Degree Murder was issued on April 28, 2026.

On the evening of April 28, at approximately 8:00 pm, the Southern Colorado U.S. Marshals Violent Offenders Task Force assumed the case as a collateral lead from Oklahoma authorities. Pursuant to a coordinated investigation, Shamblin was located in Alamosa and taken into custody without incident at approximately 10:25 pm.

This apprehension highlights the effective partnership between federal and local authorities. The diligent efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office, and the Alamosa Police Department were instrumental in the resolution of this matter.
