The City of Alamosa Receives Colorado Tree Coalition Grant for the Carroll Park “Bark & Bark” Tree Planting Project

Alamosa, CO – The City of Alamosa has received a $5,000 grant from the Colorado Tree Coalition (CTC) to support the Carroll Park “Bark & Bark” Tree Planting Project. As part of this effort, the City’s Tree Access Project will celebrate National Arbor Day on Saturday, April 18, 2026, with a community tree-planting event at Carroll Park’s new dog park, where volunteers will help plant more than 60 shade trees during the park’s final phase.

"Parks and right of way trees are incredibly important to our quality of life here in Alamosa. They provide shade, cooler micro-climates, wind breaks, cleaner air and soil stabilization; we are excited to partner with the CTC on this project that will especially benefit future generations and our four-legged friends" said Andy Rice, Director of Parks, Recreation & Library for the City of Alamosa.

“The goal is to engage future park users in helping establish and care for the trees from the beginning,” said Allison Serafin Steere, Board Certified Master Arborist and City of Alamosa Tree Access Project Manager leading the project.

This project is also funded in part by Colorado Lottery proceeds through the State’s Conservation Trust Fund program.

The Colorado Tree Coalition (CTC) is a non-profit whose mission is to preserve, renew and enhance community forests statewide. The CTC awarded $36,638 in grants to 10 organizations in 2025. These grant projects allowed recipients to plant and manage trees in community forests across Colorado. Grants are made possible through the USDA Forest Service, the Colorado State Forest Service and our CTC members and supporters. Since 1991, the CTC has awarded grants to 240 communities and organizations totaling more than $1,348,000. These grants have been matched with more than $8 million in community money and in-kind services.
