3/18/26 Business Video Surveillance Program

Alamosa, CO –  The City of Alamosa is committed to improving public safety in and around local businesses by deterring crime and supporting the successful prosecution of offenders. Video surveillance has proven to be an effective tool for preventing criminal behavior and assisting law enforcement in investigations. By partnering with local businesses and expanding the use of video technology, we can make our community safer and hold offenders accountable.

The Alamosa Police Department is pleased to announce that six new DVR camera systems have been ordered for local businesses as part of this program. The City has allocated funding specifically to support this initiative and help local businesses upgrade their surveillance systems. Eligible businesses may apply for a replacement or upgrade to existing systems, if compatible with the 2025 camera dispersal, or for a new system if they do not currently have one. Priority will be given to businesses that do not have operational exterior cameras or are upgrading outdated technology.

Requirements for Participation:

  • Businesses must remain in operation within the Alamosa city limits for at least one year.
  • Each system includes a DVR with four monitors, and cameras should be installed primarily to provide exterior coverage of the business. Any remaining monitors may be used for interior monitoring if exterior coverage is sufficient.
  • The City of Alamosa will provide the DVR system, but installation and monitors are the responsibility of the business.
  • Systems must be installed and operational within 30 days of delivery.
  • If a business relocates outside city limits or closes within the first year, the DVR system must be returned to the Alamosa Police Department.

Application Process: Email a summary request to Support Services Division Captain Brandon Bertsch at bbertsch@alamosa.gov, or call 719-589-2548.

Include in your request:

  • Whether you are requesting a replacement or upgrade, or a new system.
  • Anticipated installation timeline.
  • A statement confirming your agreement that the primary purpose of the cameras are for exterior coverage and will only be used for interior coverage if the exterior coverage is sufficient.
  • The cameras focused on exterior coverage will record continuously.
  • Business name, location, and owner/responsible party contact information.

The Alamosa Police Department looks forward to supporting local businesses through this program and working together to reduce criminal activity in our community. We also thank the businesses participating, as they have been a valuable asset in helping solve crimes in the city of Alamosa.
