2/18/26 Ribbon Cutting for New Sanitation Building - Tuesday, February 24, 2026
Alamosa, CO –The City of Alamosa is pleased to invite the community to the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Sanitation Building located at 2442 Old Sanford Road. This event marks a significant milestone in our city’s growth and a long-awaited transition for our sanitation team. For over sixty years, the sanitation operations were housed in a facility originally designed for only trash collection and pulverization. While that building was repurposed in 1974 to include a makeshift office and breakroom, the division has since outgrown the space. This new facility finally provides the modern infrastructure necessary to support our staff and the vital services they provide to our residents.
This project addresses several long-standing logistical needs by providing a more functional layout and improved amenities. Unlike the previous site, where only three of the five trucks could be stored indoors, the new building ensures the entire fleet is sheltered from the elements and kept secure. The new design also features dedicated areas for staff training and most importantly, this project ensures all restrooms and communal spaces are fully ADA compliant, creating a modern, accessible environment for our entire team. By moving into a space specifically designed for sanitation needs, we are ensuring a safer and more efficient environment for employees.
This project was made possible through the funding and support of the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA). Please join us on Tuesday, February 24th at 4:00 pm to tour the new facility and celebrate this investment in our community’s infrastructure.
