Boyd Park Ribbon Cutting
Alamosa, CO – The City of Alamosa would like to invite the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Boyd Park playground on Monday, January 26, at 4:30 p.m. This transformation marks the debut of an inclusive, beautiful, and durable play space.
The new playground features a wooden design by the manufacturer Kompan and was built with the specific goal of emphasizing the social nature of play. One of the most exciting features is the "cliff rider," a unique play element where children can experience the thrill of gliding from one platform to another on a specialized pole. The park also introduces a "coco wave" swing that allows children to experience the joy of swinging together on the same apparatus, while a giant “jungle dome” is designed to handle dozens of children at once.
Inclusivity is a cornerstone of the new Boyd Park design, ensuring that children of all ages and abilities can play together. For younger visitors, the "unitruck" includes special design elements that cater to children with disabilities and ground-based play. Furthermore, sensory elements such as a music play panel have been integrated to enhance the inclusive nature of the space. The City extends its gratitude to the funders and partners who made this unique community asset possible and looks forward to welcoming families to the grand opening.
This playground was made possible with funding from DOLA’s Strong Communities program as part of the Boyd School Adaptive Reuse Project. The Strong Communities Grant Program is intended to incentivize the adoption of transformational practices, programs, and policies that support sustainable development patterns and affordable housing into the future. The Boyd School Adaptive Reuse project will create up to 55 housing units on the historic Boyd school property. The units will be located in the old school building and in a second new building that will be built on site. In addition to housing, this funding is being used to improve public infrastructure in the neighborhood including stormwater, roads, ADA-accessibility, and this wonderful new playground.
